The American Simmental Association is proud to announce the launch of the Profit Through Science podcast. Co-hosted by Dr. Jon DeClerck, ASA EVP, and Dr. Ben Crites, Director of Commercial and Industry Relations, the Profit Through Science podcast will feature topics and professionals at the heart of the Simmental breed and larger beef business.
From conversations about the genetic evaluation and science behind the breed, to real-world applications of this information, Profit Through Science will draw on the wealth of knowledge at the Association, and among our industry partners.
For many busy producers, podcasts have become a go-to in the tractor, on the road, and when there simply isn’t time to sit down and read the news. The Profit Through Science podcast was designed for those producers, with in-depth, lively conversations fit into an efficient, timely show. Interviews with professionals at ASA and beyond will connect a voice with the science, innovation, and genetics driving profitability in the beef industry.
The first episode of Profit Through Science features an interview with Dr. Elizabeth Dressler, ASA Lead Geneticist. She covers the new Heifer Pregnancy (HP) EPD, explaining how to interpret the new tool, how to use it, and opportunities for producers. Dr. Dressler discusses the heritability of HP, and how that information should apply to producer decisions. She also explains how to compare the HP EPD of different animals, and shares a real-world example of how a different HP EPD between two bulls could affect cow herd fertility. Dr. Dressler also discusses the role ASA’s Total Herd Enrollment program plays in maintaining the HP EPD, and much more. Open females are one of the most expensive issues producers face, and this information on how to use the HP EPD is valuable for Simmental breeders and commercial producers alike.
In this first episode and beyond, Dr. DeClerck and Dr. Crites will ask many of the same questions producers have, with guests providing answers in real time. By delivering this educational content in an easy-to-access format, it’s easier than ever to stay up to date on the latest information coming from the ASA Headquarters.
Profit Through Science is streaming on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Follow the show to be notified when new episodes are ready.
